This year is starting with already quite a few narrative events, drawing in players from all over.
The year is spearheaded (ha!) by Animosity Campaigns events, two in opposite corners of the US, one in WarhammerWorld and an online campaign that ties it all together.

Several of these events, as usual, make use of campaign play rules, especially the new version of Path to Glory, or their own custom unit or Hero upgrades, and gather players both local and from extended online communities who get to play and share stories together in person.

Warcry Narrative @ Everwinter Con, Boston, MA, USA, by Animosity Campaigns
January 4-5 2025

The year started off with a bang, with an in-person Warcry Animosity event at the Everwinter con, just over a week ago.
Returning to the root-haunted fields of the Bykaal underworld in Shyish, first featured in the Animosity II worldwide campaign, players fought over the control of this backwater would-be outpost of Sigmar, and against Bykaal’s turnip-shaped monstrosities.
Veteran players of Animosity campaigns visited the Bykaal locations they created stories about in the online campaign back in 2020, now in the form of themed tables, and accrued coin and upgrades via gambit cards.

Weekender Narrative “Mutiny’s End”: online event, plus @ Las Vegas Open, USA; and WarhammerWorld, Nottingham, UK, by Animosity Campaigns
January 17 – Feb 2

Just about to kick off this weekend, three events in one all building into the same tale. This Animosity Weekender combines a 2-week-long mini-campaign where players submit hobby and stories online, with two live play weekender events: one at the Las Vegas Open in the US, another at Warhammer World, UK.
Players will be involved in a nautical treasure hunt, following one of three pirate captains searching the Karkino Sea of Aqshy for unimaginable wealth… and a mythical threat.

In every realm, when gold touches the sea floor, it becomes the property of the Crab King. Urak-Nal. It Who Drags Below. Da Snippla. Berejin’s End. Krabnos.
None can say whether it is in truth a Godbeast or a spirit of the natural world, a single entity or a myth spun together from unrelated encounters across the centuries. Traveling through secret paths known only to the deep, and carrying their pilfered treasures aloft, they return to the Hall of Drowned Gold in a glittering procession.
Yes folks, its finally crab-monster time in a live event 😉

The online event (Jan 17 – Feb 2) will feature a lot of exploration mechanics, where player coalitions will search different islands and shores for clues about the treasure hoard.
Players can join one of the coalitions following a captain and coordinate with their teammates on their private chat in the Discord server. And as usual for Animosity Campaigns, they contribute to their team securing an objective by picking which ones they like and submitting their games, hobby, short stories or scenic battle photos.
You can find the Player’s Guide to “Mutiny’s End” here.

The Las Vegas Open event (Jan 17-19) will be an AoS Grand Narrative with doubles games, an army sideboard, Path to Glory progression and even Anvil of Apotheosis, with each player swearing allegiance to a different pirate captain, all taking place in the biggest locations in the Karkino Sea which have themed tables associated with them.
If you are going to LVO and *somehow* find yourself with free time or changing your mind about what games tom play, you can find the event tickets here (there is always a waitlist and dropouts).

Finally, to cap off the weekender in Feb 1st, the Warcry Meetup at Warhammer World will see warbands converge on the Karkino Sea to make profit of the pirate captain’s search, mercenaries procuring all sorts of plunder and especially caches of Emberstone of Aqshy, to sell to the highest bidder between the captains. Players will fight over 3 battles during the day, and be dealt special Plunder cards to aid in battle (though some might be cursed!).
Find the Player’s Pack here, and if you are interested in attending you can join the Animosity Discord server to sign up!

All these threads will converge together into the greater storyline that will decide which captain will find the treasure of Krabnos, and their ultimate fate when they face the mythical beast.

The Warpfire Rains Warcry narrative, Gamezenter, Roseville, MN, USA, by “Salty Sea” Dan Herrera
January 18 2025

A narrative event of Triumph and Treachery run by the renowned “Salty Sea” Dan Herrera (@TheSaltySea1). Most games in this event will involve 3 players, with overlaid narrative rules.
Warbands are drawn to a previously unremarkable realmgate between the Ghurian Gnarlwood and what apparently was a sealed Stormvault in Aqshy. The skaven Vermindoom tore right through this vault and the gate, and now it has turned into a spewing volcano of warpflame, scattering warp-twisted artifacts previously locked in the vault. This piece of fireworks is visible from all over the Gnarlwood, and knowledgeable and foolhardy warbands alike are homing in to grab any useful remains.

Players will choose a Motivation, which grants them a starting Artifact and a Quest to complete during the event. Each Motivation explains why a warband is there, and how to complete their goals. Each Motivation has three artifacts to choose from, and these can be upgraded throughout the event.
Finally, each warband can choose a special fighter to be warp-touched, who is investigating the phenomenon and can score a separate Research side-quest!
You can find the Event Rules Pack here, and still try to grab tickets here.

Holy Wars X: Reforged, in Naperville, IL, USA, by Stephen Herner
February 1-2 2025

The grand narrative charity tournament that has inspired so many and keeps inspiring, this 40-team doubles Age of Sigmar tournament pits players together on the deadliest themed tables ever made, each with unique terrain, special scoring goals to each, and nasty special rules. Picking which table to play on is one of the most fun parts of the event, and grudge matches are planned weeks beforehand.

Holy events have their unique Warlord progression system, where players are encouraged to make a kitbashed leader which uses a special warscroll that grows in power over the course of the event.

Warcry narrative @ Adepticon, Chicago, IL, USA, by The Dogs of Warcry Mortal Realms podcast team
March 28 and 30 2025

The Dogs of Warcry (@DogsofWarcry) run again their grand Adepticon narrative event. This time, as the realms are ripped open and Skaven stream into the realms, the ever present call of war echoes across the realms and armies have all been mustered. They are being sent to The Ravaged Coast – a place of shipwrecks, fallen cities, warring factions, and corruption. That means there is lots of opportunity for warbands to make an impact, find wealth and fame, or just do some fighting! The Ravaged Coast – a unique campaign setting shared in White Dwarf and has an upcoming Path to Glory book. It is set in Aqshy, amongst an archipelago strewn with plunder and opportunity.

Three games will be played as players follow their quest, and an optional multiplayer event will be hosted after the quest is complete.  While warbands all seek Glory, there will be 3 branching quests, which they can choose from among “Knowledge”, “Power” and “Wealth”, based on their warband’s motivation.
Legacy Artifacts each branching quest will reward a major artifact at the end of a warband’s journey.  These artifacts can be brought with the warband in any future Dogs of Warcry run/sponsored event, and players can bring Artefacts from previous events as well.

Gibbering Dome: The Fires of the Gnaw @ Adepticon, Chicago, IL, USA, by The Path to Story Mortal Realms podcast team
March 27 2025

The Gibbering Dome returns, a long-running event currently run by the Path to Story podcast (@PathToStory).
This year the Gibbering Dome is affected by the Vermin Doom and has been pinned to the Ravaged Coast in the Realm of Fire. As the energies of Aqshy and warpstone corrupt the Gibbering Dome, cunning warlords will harvest realmstone and spend it to empower their armies.

There will be mechanics from the upcoming Ravaged Coast narrative book such as making armies by combining regiments from different factions in a grand alliance, and by harvesting realmstone.

The big changes are:

  • each battle will be influenced by a different realmstone. The first is Emberstone, second is warpstone, final is nullstone.
  • Players can choose to play a Dog of War army by taking only Regiments of Renown;
  • Players will be able to give each others support in battles (like the Communication Outpost rule from 3rd edition)
  • Players can even buy enhancements from other armies and change the keywords to work for them (as in a Stormcast player can buy a soulblight artifact and make it work) :O big cheat codes, y’all.

The Gibbering Dome is innovating with narrative rules and most breaking brave new ground, within the confines of already-familiar rules for players. We look forward to see the player’s reactions and shenanigans.

Heroes of the Hinterlands: Wisconsin Wilds @ Adepticon, Chicago, IL, USA, by @Greaverblade
March 28-29 2025

The cooperative Hero party skirmish for Age of Sigmar returns! Like previous years, Heroes of the Hinterlands is a casual dungeon-crawl style wargaming event with a lot of stuff made up on the fly instead of a hard and fast adherence to rules as written.
Players can bring their own hero of up to 7 wounds, team up with other heroes, and cleave their way though the most cheese-oriented parts of the Mortal Realms.

Festermere Conflict @ Adepticon, Chicago, IL, USA, by Zak Kulhan & the Chicago Dawnbringers
March 29 2025

The Festermere Conflict is a narrative event consisting of 3 games of Age of Sigmar played at 1000 points, with unique rules and grand strategies for each table and a different battle plan for each round, exploring the Festermere in Ghyran, and the local war-ravaged countryside outside Greywater Fastness.

The event’s storyline is a continuous tale jumping from an ongoing Soulbound campaign to the AoS events, and back again.
Players will be able to bring Legends units in their army, and also can bring a free “Underworld” warband to add to their army! A key component of the event is for players to engage with each other to explore and discuss the motivations of their armies to come to every table they are playing, and how this will advance their army’s agenda, over the course of the event. Ah, and every unit in their armies must be named!

You can buy tickets here.

Age of Sigmar Narrative @ Squig City 2025, Pendleton, OR, by Pendleton Wargaming
April 26-27 2025

The Pendleton Wargaming (@LetErBoing) club’s narrative event returns, run once more by Ethan Mellville (@Clint_BigWood).
Last year’s event, “War in Arcanus”, saw players embark on a 2-day narrative in Andtor, in the Realm of Beasts, with themed tables and unique side-quests, exploring the thawing lost city of Arcanus. Players could bring their own kitbashed Generals, awarding them special Command Traits and Artefacts if they didn’t have the UNIQUE keyword, each mapping to specific character archetype. These generals could then acquire even more traits throughout the campaign, and players would have specific custom-made “bounties” for their army’s story, for them to achieve during the event.

This year’s event details are still a mystery, but the club did participate in the “Slaughter at Hel Crown” global mini-campaign from Games Workshop, so there is a chance the event is focusing on this edition’s storyline in the Realm of Fire. Follow the official social media account for more details.

N.E.W. Age of Sigmar annual event in Trecate, Italy, by Narrative Events Warhammer (N.E.W.)
May 11 2025 (to be confirmed)

The grand event in Trecate ran by Alessandro Bonini will return this year, also focusing on the ravaged coasts of Aqshy and the wastelands of the Gnaw.
Last year, armies were caught in the jaws and guts of the gigantic worm godbeast Fangathrak, and thrust through the realmgate at its heart. They were deposited in new lands and had to fight for survival and conquest.

Details for this year have not yet been revealed, but players can count on exclusive themed tables with grandiose terrain, and use of Omen cards they can play to create wondrous effects during battle.

Witney Warhammer 005 in Witney, UK, by
6-7 September 2025

The backstabbing and intrigue of Witney Warhammer will return this year, but details are still shrouded in the mists. Probably warp-fume mists, but that’s just our guess.

Last year, armies converged and conspired to further… a wedding. Or maybe not. Between noble houses Cywin and Wyrdcraft (one dead broke, another heirless), trying to stand up to the encroaching BroadOrc trading empire in Aqshy.
Players brought their armies into “couples”, playing doubles games with a special character in each army joining the other as a “date”. Armies visited the countryside locations (ie. themed tables) and searched for wedding gifts (ie. artifacts ), to plan the perfect wedding venue and gifts. Of course, each couple of players were affiliated with one of the houses and trying to force their advantage in this political union. The fate of the region rested on the best wedding plan.

Follow @WarhammerWitney for more up to date details of this year’s event.

And that’s probably far from all there is.
There are many smaller or less-well advertised events scattered all over the world, you might stumble onto one.
Narrative Play is niche, it is done in dedicated groups of friends and by passionate hobbyists who enjoy crafting stories and opportunities for others to do so together. Putting together events is not easy, especially Narrative ones.
So toast to your NEOs (Narrative Event Organizers) and help spread the word, it’s the only way our communities grow. They definitely have, over the past 9 years, and the results are plain to see.
